Casanueva Design-Build
Emilio Casanueva's first construction job was building his dream house at the Chilean beach resort where he spent his childhood holidays. He enjoyed the process tremendously, and built 40 more houses in 6 years. After returning with his growing family to California, Emilio learned design, worked for a large construction company and became licensed as a builder. He founded Mediterraneo, a Bay Area desing-build business specializing in high-end residential properties. After 9 years of success, Emilio sold the business, which continues to thrive, and accepted a position of Associate Architect at the Universtity of California, Santa Barbara. Emilio helped bring environmentally sustainable building practices to the campus, which were later adopted by the whole UC system, the state's largest builder. Emilio, passionate about "green" building practices, is now a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited professional. In 2003 & 2004, he co-chaired the annual Santa Barbara Parade of Green Buildings. Emilio is a former SB County Housing Authority Commissioner, former Chairman of the SB Foodbank, where he still volunteers, and established Ocean Ducks, an ocean swimming organization that put together the first Santa Barbara Trans-channel crossing to benefit the Community Environmental Council. Emilio's immediate family includes 5 children, 6 grandchildren, and a brother in Santiago, Chile.
